Venous Doppler

A Venous Doppler ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique used to assess blood flow in the veins. It helps detect conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, and other circulatory issues. This exam is essential for identifying problems in the veins of the legs, arms, or other parts of the body.

Assessing Blood Flow and Vein Health

What Is a Venous Doppler Ultrasound?

A Venous Doppler ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to assess blood flow and detect abnormalities in the veins. It is commonly used to diagnose conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, and venous insufficiency. The ultrasound captures real-time images of blood flow, allowing healthcare providers to monitor and treat circulatory issues effectively.

Why Choose a Venous Doppler Ultrasound?

  • Detect Blood Clots: A Venous Doppler can identify deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition where blood clots form in deep veins and can be life-threatening if left untreated.
  • Evaluate Circulatory Health: It’s used to assess the efficiency of blood flow in veins, detecting venous insufficiency or varicose veins.
  • Non-invasive & Safe: The procedure is completely painless, non-invasive, and does not involve radiation, making it a safe option for all patients.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The Venous Doppler ultrasound is quick and straightforward. You’ll be asked to lie on your back while a gel is applied to the area being examined. The transducer will then be moved across the skin to capture detailed images of blood flow in the veins. The test is usually completed in 20–30 minutes, and you will receive radiologist-reviewed results the same day.
